You may also want to visit the web museum that display part of the Skiworld
collection. The collection consists of a large selection of ski equipment and
items related to skiing. It has gradually been built, since the first pair of
skis was collected in Seattle in 1996. It was my interest in alpine skiing and
my background as a ski racer, which sparked the interest for collecting. At the
beginning I collected only skis and boots from yard sales in the neighbourhood.
Later I started collecting at thrift shops, second hand stores, antique malls,
rummage sales, and Internet auction and from donations. In 1997 the collection
was moved to Colorado. I collected in Denver, Colorado Springs, Vail and
several other places. I also made trips to Utah and Idaho where I found many of
the skis and ski boots that is part of the collection today. In 2001, the
collection was shipped to Sauda, Norway. Since that time, a large amount of
Nordic skis has been added. The collection consists of 480 pair of skis, 300
pair of boots, 250 pair of ski poles, ca. 1600 items of clothing, 250 books and
a number of other items. The total amount is 3800-4000 items.
Skis
Among the skis are antique skies dating back to the 19th century from Norway,
Sweden and USA. Large portions are Alpine skis collected in USA. There are also
Cross Country, Touring, Mountain, Jumping skis, and also skis that are unusual
and more specialized.
Clothing
The clothing collection has clothing dating back to the early part of the 20th
century and forward to the present. Of interest is a selection of national team
clothing and clothing related to the Olympic games. Teams such as Norway, USA,
Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Canada, Finland, Germany and the
former CCCP is represented.
Sauda
The local items collected are from alpine ski racers such as the Halsnes
brothers and local cross country and biathlon skiers. It also includes several
antique pairs, and skies made from the ski factory run by Andreas Molla. He
made ``Sauda Ski`` from Ash and Hickory. In the web museum, you will also find
vintage photographs taken from the wonderful ski area that surrounds Sauda. |
